By now you've put 100 days of base miles in those legs, now it's time to stretch them out a bit with some punchy climbs, bumpy roads and temperamental temperatures. This ride is guaranteed to put you in the mood for Spring Classics season! It will be a 100k (62+ mile) route of paved and gravel roads typical of Loudoun County. The route will consist of quiet country lanes, scenic farmland but will also provide consistently rolling terrain (HILLS) with the occasional short, steep climb and the occasional bumpy and/or gravel stretch. Likely elevation gain between 3 -4,000'.
This is a moderate pace ride (on a scale of mild, moderate, challenging, advanced) with opportunities to stretch your legs up hills and regroup at major intersections, though not a ride suitable for beginners or those without gravel experience or experience riding in a group setting. Road bikes with 25-28c tires recommended. No hybrids, MTB or aero-bars allowed, sorry. If the weather looks frightful, we may reduce the mileage to 50k. The ride may be cancelled if there is significant snow/ice/below freezing conditions, so please stay tuned to our FB page.
All of our rides are ridden in group format at a reasonable, but steady tempo. The pace can vary depending on the ability level of the participants. We try to ensure that no one gets left behind, BUT please respect your fellow riders by understanding your abilities and limits. If you are unsure if you can keep up with the group, please call the shop and we can discuss the details of the route. We reserve the right to provide slower riders cue sheets for a solo-ride or form a second group of slower-paced riders. Bring a wet-weather layer as well as water and snacks. Both will be available at the shop. Coffee before and after.
