Two distance options; More (60 miles for $60) or Less (40 miles for $40). Entry fee includes 2 tickets redeemable for beer at Milkhouse Bewery on the day of the event for guests 21 and over. Proceeds to benefit #RideThe21, Veloville USA's fundraiser to ride the entire Tour de France route for UK based William Wates Foundation and Virginia based Phoenix Bikes Charities. More information about the fundraiser can be found at www.crowdrise.com/ridethe21 or www.velovilleusa.com/ride-the-21.
The More route will be a lively mix of gravel and pavement, so clad your ride in 25+ road or gravel tires (though the majority of the ride will be PAVED). Likely elevation gain between 4-6,000' and some steep climbs possible. Mostly rolling terrain typical of rural Maryland. Roads can be rough, rutted, gravel, dirt, rocks, etc. The Less route will be paved only, rolling terrain with one or two steep (but short) climbs with likely elevation gain between 2-3,000'. March weather can be varied and unpredictable, so please come prepared with layers. Two water bottles and plenty of nutrition is recommended. There will be a chance to refuel along the way, though this is considered a "self-supported" ride. A ride leader and sweep will accompany both rides and cue sheets will be available on the day of the event. We love the peace and quiet of this area and would like to be invited back, so please observe the rules of the road and try to be a courteous and responsible participant.
This will be "remote start" ride. (Field trip!) Ride will begin and end at Milkhouse Brewery at 8253 Dollyhyde Rd, Mt Airy, MD 21771. www.milkhousebrewery.com (301) 829-6950. Plan on a prompt 10am start so please allow for travel time. Delicious, locally sourced burgers and a vegetarian option will be available for purchase post-ride. The beer selection at Milkhouse is fantastic. The location is scenic and serene. If the weather cooperates, it should be a great day of riding and refreshments.
The fine print: The More will be challenging ride (on a scale of mild, moderate, challenging, advanced) with opportunities to stretch your legs up hills and regroup at major intersections, though not a ride suitable for beginners or those without gravel experience or experience riding in a group setting. This ride is perfect for gravel, CX or road bikes. The Less will be less challenging, easier terrain and a great option for those wishing for an easier distance or new to organized rides. This ride is perfect for road bikes. No aero-bars for either ride, please.
